The endodontics describes a kind of treatment at the dental root canals.
The term "Endodontics" comes from the Greek and is composed of “endo” =>
"inside" and "odont" => "Tooth".

A root canal treatment is performed when the pulp (nerve and blood
vessels inside of the tooth) are inflamed or if the inflamed pulp has
already died.
For example, the inflammation can be caused by tooth decay, thermal or
chemical stimuli, a split or an dental trauma caused by an accident.
Usually the inflammation leads to serve dental pain.
The course of a root canal treatment is generally as follows: Under
local anaesthesia the dentist will open the crown to be able to reach
the root canal. Then he is going to clean up this root canal with a
long, thin instrument; the inflamed or dead Tissue will be removed and
the duct be formed. With a disinfectant the resulting voids are cleaned
again and also be disinfected.
The thorough cleaning and disinfection of root canals is an essential
prerequisite for the success of the treatment and therefore it has to be
carried out very carefully. Finally the dentist fills the channels with
a plastic material and with a sealing material. The access to the root
canal system will be sealed by a dental filling.
For sure, an alternative treatment for the root canal treatment is
basically not given.
In rare cases no treatment can be carried out: if the root canal is not
accessible, the tooth-root is broken or the bone around the tooth is too
low and can not be rebuilt, Then, unfortunately, ther is only left to
remove the tooth.
Endodontic Surgery
The most common surgery in endodontic surgery is called the root
resection (ESCs) or root tip removal. This will be carried out if an
inflammation or infection of the tooth is continuing although the root
canal treatment took place. In this case, the inflammation is usually at
the bottom of the rootcanals.

The course of a root tip removal is generally as follows: Under local
anaesthesia the dentist solves the tooth gums in the area of the root
tip. Now, the inflamed or infected tissue as well as the outer end of
the root will be removed. With special instruments the open channels
will be cleaned and after this closed with filler and then sealed.
Finally the gums will be fixed with a small seam so that the tissue may
heal well and quickly. Because of the small dimension where the steps of
the treatment will be carried out, the dentist often uses a dental
microscope or an magnifying glass.
Under normal circumstances it is almost possible to be back at work one
day later or return to the routine flow. However, after this small
surgery for a few days excessive physical exertion and smoking should be
avoided.
