As a firmly fixed tooth replacement, dental implants combine many
advantages in terms of comfort, aesthetic appearance and functionality.
The implant is inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone and unites
with the bony tissue. Implants assume the function of the natural root
of a tooth in the jaw. This method renders stable, firmly fixed tooth
replacement possible, which under certain circumstance can last for an
entire life-time. Implants are suitable solutions for a number of initial conditions, whether it be a single missing tooth, several missing teeth in a row, missing molars at the rear of the mouth (free-end condition), the lack of practically all the teeth or a completely toothless jaw. Several leading dentists have specialised in implantology in the clinics and have a particularly wide experience in this field. Dental implants have the following major advantages:
The most important condition for inserting an implant is its permanent incorporation in bony tissue. Those implants used in the Zentrum für Ästhetik clinics have a special surface which simplifies adhesion of the tissue. If there is not sufficient natural bony substance available in the jaw, osteogenetic reconstruction may under certain circumstances be necessary. A detailed description of how this is performed is given under Medical Considerations. Dental implants are also characterised by the fact that they render it difficult for plaque deposits to form. This is a particular advantage in any possible cases of gingivosis. Immediate implantation is particularly recommended for the anterior tooth area. Several treatment phases are performed at one sitting: the teeth affected are removed, implants inserted and the missing teeth replaced by a temporary appliance. It is particularly convenient for the patient to have this treatment performed under general anaesthetic. Once the implants have become solidly incorporated, the permanent denture may then be fitted. This is normally possible after approximately four months.
Patients are given extensive advice on all possible risks in the dental clinics. If the situation so demands, the staff will consider alternatives which fulfil the patient's demands of aesthetic appearance and functionality equally well. The ultimate objective remains that of having a satisfied patient with a radiant smile.
